Royan – Day 6

Our region is full of culinary products, so take advantage of this day to discover some of them while continuing your cultural and heritage visits.

Mornac-sur-Seudre

You have arrived in this small village classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France. Stroll through the cobbled streets and pass through the doors of artists’ and craftsmen’s stalls. Located on the banks of the Seudre, this former fishing and trading port has retained all its character. You will fall under the spell of its medieval market halls, its Romanesque church, its traditional white painted houses and its multicoloured huts.

Take advantage of your visit to this small port to discover the fauna and flora of the Seudre. Kayak, stand up paddle, alone or accompanied, everything will be at your disposal to spend a 100% natural moment in the heart of the Seudre marsh. https://www.kayaketnature.com/

You couldn’t pass by these colourful oyster huts without being tempted to enter and taste oysters just off the flat-bottomed boats. You can walk along the channels to admire the comings and goings of the boats and watch the oyster farmers at work. https://www.legrandteger.com/

The sea means salt, so stop by the southernmost salt marsh on the French Atlantic coast. Visit the marsh and learn or rediscover how salt is produced. The Saunier will then explain to you how the operation works, from the arrival of the sea water to the production basin. https://www.seldemornac.fr/

Jules Gautret cellars in Saint Sulpice de Royan

To complete this tasting day, make a stop at the Cave Jules Gautret. The tours offered here will allow you to learn more about Pineau des Charentes, Cognac and Charentais wine production. The grape juice brought in by several hundred winegrowers who are members of the cooperative represents an average of 5,500 tonnes of red and white grapes each year.

The Saint-Sulpice-de-Royan cellar produces :

  • 33,000 hectolitres of wine for the distillation of cognac and the production of pineau
  • 6,100 hectolitres of white Charentais vin de pays
  • 4,900 hectolitres of red Charentais vin de pays

You will then be able to leave with memories that you will be able to explain the whole process.
